Writer's Workshop
"It is terribly important for kids to read and write for the
reasons that people the world over read and write, which is to communicate, to be delighted, to laugh."
- Lucy Caulkins
Writer's Workshop is an interdisciplinary approach to teaching writing. Students use mentor texts and read alouds to inspire them as authors. Mini lessons on specific traits of writing provide direct instruction and teach skills necessary for great writing. Multiple opportunities to work with a particular piece of writing allows the student the opportunity to become "real authors" and publish work.
Students will move through the following processes as they write:
Prewriting
Drafting
Revision
Editing
Publishing
Each day students will work on pieces of writing and move through the various stages at their own pace. I will use rubrics and checklists to help define specific expectations and set goals and deadlines.
